I beg to acknowledge receipt of your favor dated the 25th

ulto., in reference to a letter which Lr. Secretary Bonar Law has been

kind enough to cause to be addressed to the Texas Company relative to|

the status of the fim of mesure. Reiss & Co. and its head Mr.Holyoak,

I am very much obliged to you for this camunication, and

now beg to advise you that the Texas Company is entirely satisfied

with what you have written them, although your letter does not give

the assurances they originally asked for. I had rointed out to my

friends already at the time that no Covernment could be expected to

sive specific assurances of this kind, obliging and considerate 28

they would always find the British Goverment to be, and they much

appreciate your having written them in this manner.

In further reference to my report of the 3rd inst. (acries

of which I now beg to enclose), I have pleasure to inform you that
